Deniz Yücel was born in 10.09. 1973 in Flörsheim am Main, Germany. is a German-Turkish journalist and publisher. He has been a contributor to several German publications, most notably Die Welt and Die Tageszeitung.

Turkish government repeatedly accused Deniz Yücel of espionage on behalf of Germany’s federal intelligence agency, to support the alleged terrorist organizations Fetö and PKK. The government further claimed that Deniz Yücel aided the two groups to incite violence in Turkey. In a speech in 2017, President Tayyip Erdogan declared that “Yücel is a spy, not a inocent journalist”.
Yücel was arrested last February in Istanbul on charges of propaganda and incitement of hatred. His detention contributed to increasingly strained relations between Germany and Turkey, and the German government had repeatedly called for his release.
Finaly, Yücel’s lawyer, Veysel Ok, tweeted “The court has decided to release my client.” He later posted a picture of Yücel leaving the prison alongside his wife.
